With Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown, the hospitality brand’s first hotel in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) of Arab states as well as Africa and India, IHG Hotels & Resorts has added a new location to its vibrant lifestyle brand.
The flagship property recently opened its doors on the banks of Dubai Creek, for centuries the city’s trading centre and an integral part of the transformation of Dubai from a trading post to today’s futuristic city.
Using the heritage of Dubai and Emirati culture in a modern setting that incorporates local and international designers, artists and suppliers, the hotel’s interior design showcases the old and new. Flooring is a striking feature of this creative décor with Danish flooring producer, Ege Carpets’ bespoke rugs and wall-to-wall carpets as stand-out components.
Ege Carpets renowned products are distributed in South Africa by KBAC Flooring.
The bespoke Ege rugs in the guest rooms are large and prominent interior décor elements. Designed by various curated artists, each rug is a work of art, created to be an eye-catching centrepiece in the room. The rugs for each type of guest room are different but all add personality, ambience and a contemporary touch to the interior.
The design of the rugs adorning the King Rooms was inspired by city skylines, featuring a composition of all the prominent iconic buildings in Dubai, highlighted with a striking orange colour. For the King Deluxe Rooms, the designers explored inspirational text and pop art, and the Junior Suite rugs evoke nostalgic memories of squish painting. The Design Suite rugs are based on geometric shapes and patterns.
The prestige new installation features Ege’s Highline flooring concept which offers 100% freedom of design. Designers can explore bespoke designs to create their very own work of art carpets. Ege supports the entire process from idea to installation in collaboration with its local distributor, KBAC Flooring.
Each of the 269 rooms is inspired by the story of Dubai Creek – whether through the surrealist wallpaper created exclusively by local artists, the bespoke shisha lamps or the wardrobes with carved wooden doors, hand-crafted in Mashrabiya style with a modern twist. The spa inspired mother-of-pearl bathrooms pay homage to the country’s proud heritage of pearl diving, while eye-catching vibrant designer furniture adds a contemporary touch to the interior.
